SAFETY

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology has developed and improved rapidly in recent years. This means the potential fire risk from BESS developments is better understood and consequently much reduced, through stronger regulation and technological advances. Nonetheless, fire safety is a primary consideration in the location and design of BESS facilities.

DESIGN

All sites are designed to minimise fire risk and spread whilst providing suitable access for emergency vehicles. Detailed layout designs will be produced in accordance with current design standards and will take into account equipment spacing and water supply requirements.

MANAGEMENT & DETECTION

The BESS facility will be monitored remotely 24/7 to provide advance warning of any potential problems. There will also be physical, regular onsite maintenance and management inspections to ensure the smooth operation of the site. An emergency management plan will be in place to respond effectively to any emergency.

SHUTDOWN & SUPPRESSION

If irregularities are detected, systems will be shutdown before a fire starts. Individual BESS units have their own bespoke fire suppression systems, which may comprise of aerosol suppression, water mist or sprinkler systems.

PLANS & PROCEDURES

The planning application will include comprehensive information    detailing safety plans and procedures in relation to this development.
